Logistics
The strategic position of Rhône-Alpes and its motorway and rail infrastructures have made possible the development of storage and distribution hubs serving Europe. There are three main centres in Isère:
Centr'Alp, close to Grenoble
Isle d'Abeau: 250 hectares devoted to international logistics, with a customs office, freight carriers and international transport and service companies.
Salaise-Vienne Sud maritime and inland waterway facility, linking Isère to major ports on the Mediterranean.
Motorways and roads
Thanks to its network of motorways and trunk roads Grenoble-Isère enjoys easy access to neighbouring European cities, such as Frankfurt, Munich, Barcelona, Paris, Brussels, London or Milan.
Further additions are on the way with motorway links to Turin and Nice, by the end of the century. Grenoble-Isère can also draw on powerful road haulage services, with major international transporters operating in the area.

Telecommunications
Grenoble-Isère is one of the best equipped places in France when it comes to telecommunications:
France Télècom has laid 10 000 km of optical fibre cable all over the department and has chosen the Grenoble area as a pilot site for ISDN and high capacity ATM services.
A high capacity ATM network (155 Mb/s) has been set up in partnership with the Rhône-Alpes region to serve research. It is connected to the Renater and Aramis networks used by a large number of research centres and university facilities in the area for Internet access.
In addition, there are numerous ISPs and a GIX (Global Internet Exchange), the first of its kind in France. The GIX significantly improves access quality and speed for local traffic, which is twice as high as the overall average in France.
Grenoble Network Initiative represents all the major industrial, scientific and university bodies that play an active part in information technology. It seeks to encourage the development of experimental ventures and innovative infrastructures, in Grenoble and Isère.
Air links
Grenoble-Isère is served by two international airports - Lyon Saint-Exupéry and Geneva-Cointrin - with a total of 130 flights to and from Europe and the rest of the world (direct flights to New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo and Singapore). In addition, there are frequent flights to Frankfurt, London and Amsterdam.
There are flights to all major cities in France from Lyon Saint-Exupéry and Grenoble St Geoirs.
TGV
Grenoble-Isère is served by regular TGV high-speed trains from Grenoble, Lyon Saint-Exupéry and Lyon.

Major investments and plans to build a TGV line from Lyon to Turin will put Grenoble-Isère at a focal point in the European rail network
