The four universities in Grenoble (UPMF, UJF, Stendhal, Grenoble-INP) contribute a great deal to the quality of the available workforce, thanks to courses based on close links with industry and research and numerous international exchange programmes.
Grenoble's reputation in the world of science is due essentially to the quality of teaching in maths, computer science, electronics, physics and process engineering at Université Joseph Fourier and Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble, with its nine engineering schools.
Grenoble Pôle Européen Universitaire et scientifique is a public body responsible for promoting Grenoble's academic and scientific assets at home and abroad.
The particularly technical, multi-cultural character of the job market in Grenoble, makes the city the leading centre outside Paris for strategic jobs in industry, research or business services (source INSEE).
