With 500 companies and more than 38,500 jobs, information and communications technology (ICT) has enjoyed spectacular growth here over the last 15 years, representing one of the largest sectors of activity. Several key framework projects such as Minatec, Alliance Crolles2, Minalogic, make Grenoble-Isère to reach a leading place in France and Europe.

The reputation of the micro and nanotechnology business is based on the power of research upstream in nanoscience and in basic technology, its application and industrial R&D. Famous companies - Atmel, Freescale, NXP Semiconductors, Radiall, Schneider electric, STMicroelectronics, Soitec, Thales, ... are side by side with renowned laboratories such as CEA-Léti and the best university.

In year 2002, Fresscale (ex-Motorola) joined the R&D of STMIcroelectronics and Philips at Crolles II for the most important industriel investment since ten years (b3.4 € betwen 2002 and 2007). More info

The innovating pole Minatec was born in Grenoble in year 2001. Launched by CEA-Léti and Grenoble-INP, Minatec is the leading centre in Europe and one of the top centres worldwide specializing in micro and nanotechnology. Minatec centre objectives: to maintain and develop the international competitivity of the Grenoble area.
