A dynamic, innovative industry
Birthplace of the Alpine skiing and first skiing area in the world, Grenoble-Isère saw being born and developing large-scale industries related to the snow sports.

2 700 people work in the sport industry in Grenoble-Isère. 1 600 of them are involved in manufacturing sports goods, a further 400 work in distribution, the garment industry or specialist publishing. 450 people are employed in designing, manufacturing and maintaining mountain facilities and equipment.
Rhône-Alpes is one of the regions where alpine skiing first developed. It possesses the world's largest ski area and it is here that a considerable amount of industry has developed to serve winter sports.
